🚨 **Protect Your Pipes Before the Freeze!** 🚨
With freezing temperatures, now is the time to take action and prevent costly plumbing damage. Burst pipes can lead to serious water damage and expensive repairs, but with a little preparation, you can avoid the stress!
Here are a few simple steps to keep your pipes safe this winter:
1️⃣ Let Faucets Drip – A small stream of water keeps pressure from building up in the pipes, which can prevent freezing.
2️⃣ Insulate Exposed Pipes*– Pipes in unheated areas (basements, attics, garages) can freeze faster. Use pipe insulation, foam sleeves, or even old towels to keep them warm. Small space heaters, or heated blankets are okay too, just don't leave them unoccupied, or you'll also be calling the fire dept.
3️⃣ Keep Cabinets Open– Open kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors, especially if your sink is on an exterior wall. This allows warm air to circulate around your pipes.
4️⃣ Seal Drafts– Check around windows, doors, and areas where pipes enter the home. Seal any cracks or gaps to keep cold air out and warm air in.
5️⃣ Keep the Heat On – If you plan on being away, set your thermostat to at least 55°F to keep the pipes warm. Even a short power outage can lead to frozen pipes.Yes, we had a tenant out of town with heat off and came back to his unit under water and extensive damage!
6️⃣ Disconnect Hoses – Don’t leave hoses connected to exterior faucets. Drain and store them away for the winter.
7️⃣ Know the Signs– If you notice a decrease in water pressure or hear strange sounds, it could be a sign that your pipes are freezing. Act fast to avoid a burst!
Taking these simple precautions can save you a major headache (and a lot of money) this winter. If you need help winterizing your plumbing or suspect a frozen pipe, give us a call! ❄️
