1: Get your land surveyed. Know your setback lines, your elevation change, and your drainage patterns before you design anything.

2: Confirm utility access. Where is the nearest water, sewer or septic location, and power connection? Site prep starts with these costs and most people do not budget for them.

3: Talk to a construction lender before you fall in love with a floor plan. Not every bank finances barndominiums or custom builds the same way. Know what you qualify for first.

4: Vet your builder thoroughly. Ask for references. Ask who will be on your site daily. Ask to see their most recent completed builds. We will gladly answer all of these.

5: Have the floor plan conversation before any commitment. At Ace’s, Jason draws the floor plan right in front of you before you sign anything.
