EctoVentures Every piece we create is designed to tell a story and bring people together. The most important thing is to and have fun!

“We Make the Memory Makers” means creating meaningful products that inspire connection, celebrate special moments, and help people preserve memories that last a lifetime. EctoVentures specializes in guide services and event planning for all types of offroad and outdoor activities, from scenic beginner trail tours to advanced technical rock crawling instruction, including day hikes, family bbq’s an

d overnight camping trips. On any of our guided offroad tours, you'll learn the basics of trail etiquette and safety preparedness, as well as vehicle-saving recovery methods, while enjoying some of the most scenic and beautiful terrain of the local San Bernardino mountains, and deserts of Lucerne Valley. EctoVentures’ goal is to bring the new Jeep driver to new experiences, and to help advance his or her offroad driving skills. Events are categorized and tailored to appeal to drivers of all skill levels. Beginner events will encourage the new driver in learning to become more comfortable with his vehicle and learn basic technical offroading skills. An advanced event will challenge the more experienced driver with his rock crawling techniques and recovery knowledge. Family-friendly events may include a half- or full-day of Jeeping, scenic hiking, picnic lunch and games, or an overnight camp-out. All skill levels are welcome! Whether you’re a beginner or advanced driver, whether your rig is brand new or fully built, we’ll get you matched up with the event that is right for you, and we'll provide all the instruction to help you build your skill and confidence behind the wheel. No two adventures are exactly alike! Join us throughout the year as we navigate the great trails of Southern California, and experience new, scenic, and challenging destinations. Randall Davis, owner of EctoVentures, has gained his experience through several years of trail guiding at events such as Jeep Jamboree USA and monthly customer trail runs for offroad shops and local Jeep dealerships. He has also competed as a professional Ultra4 co-driver and competitive rock crawling spotter with Desert Turtle Racing and Lasernut Racing. Randall’s love of map exploration has taken him to countless new trails. He enjoys the simplicity of an overland trek as much as the challenge of advanced rock crawling in places like the Hammer Trails in Johnson Valley CA, the famous Rubicon Trail, and Sandhollow Park in Utah. Through this variety of experience, he has the expertise for guiding and instructing in all types of terrain, and in many different types of offroad-equipped vehicles.

Sharing a little history. After an adventurous hike in the area the thought came to mind about who made the trail and who made the campground. Doing some research it was found that the Cottonwood-Harmon Trail was used by early settlers in the 1800's to get from Pine Valley or St George to Leeds and to New Harmony. The section hiked was far from well established but had the feel that it was old and useful. Along the way a horseshoe was found that was probably from a pack mule in the 1900's. Definitely not a trail for the moderate hiker but could be a great one with some trail maintenance. Digging further into the camp and roads... research shows that many of the forest roads and the Oak Grove Campground were built by CCC enlistees around 1933-1942 and at that time the campground included a tennis court, wading pool, and playground. In the town of Leeds that is driven through to get to the forest road leading to Oak Grove Campground, there is a historic sign on the west side of the road referring to something called "CCC Camp". Always wondering, the stop was finally made to check it out. It is reported that in 1933 the "CCC" (Civilian Conservation Corps) was enacted by President Roosevelt to help the economy and the young adults during the Great Depression.
