Though we don’t believe family is everything we do believe it’s important to take time away from the rush and hurry and remember who your people are.

We had a choice this weekend-finish projects around the house run all over town or take the kids camping. We saw that the girls needed us to be present with them so we stopped the rush and hurry and stepped away. We never regret hearing our kids find joy in the outdoors. We are so thankful to call them ours and thankful we get to adventure with them!

I have this friend who prays and asks God for small things, things most people would think are insignificant. She prays in faith believing God cares about these small seemingly “insignificant” details, because she wants to see God provide and see how HE answers her prayers.

I’m always challenged by her stories of prayers of faith and how the Lord provided those small things. When she shared a story recently I felt challenged to pray for something myself. Something small and seemingly insignificant that I could probably afford but that I want to see Him provide. And so I prayed the Lord would provide a little kids table and chairs for our homeschool room. Seemingly insignificant but prayed for it and within a few hours got a message on our neighborhood GroupMe that someone was giving theirs away!

I truly believe God uses our prayers to grow our own faith in seasons of doubt and discouragement, and then uses stories of answered prayers to encourage others. I’d love to hear how the Lord has answered your prayers (spoken or unspoken) recently, or if you’re still waiting for an answer to prayer please share below!

We’re learning to slow down on Sundays. Grateful for a church that meets in the evenings so we can sleep in sit by the fire, make breakfast and just spend time dwelling together. They tell me these are the days we will miss the most-I’m confident they are right.

So we’ve finally arrived at the point where people are surprised when we pull another child out of the car!

Our first hike as a family of five and we are crazy thankful for this cooler weather finally!!

I honestly he no idea how much I would swear by linen sheets after having our first set when we lived in Saudi. Now I cannot imagine having anything different 😆 they make me want to lay in bed all day 🛌 ☀️

Our precious Penny was born at our home on Monday and we haven’t stopped staring at her since. Her birth was one of the most beautiful Holy experiences and I have ever had. We are blessed beyond belief.

Our prayer for this little gal is that her life would be marked by the kindness of Christ, His sacrifice, and the beautiful way in which He loved all people. That kindness drew the poor widow in Mark 12 to give all she had left-two copper coins which amounted to a penny. Even though the sum was less than everything else that was given Jesus said it was more because she wasn’t giving out of her abundance but out of her poverty, and everything she had to live on. We pray Penny’s life would be marked by this type of radical laid down love for others.

Jo (for my grandma Joann and Van’s grandfather Joseph) may she also live in the legacy of the love and sacrifice their lives were marked by.

We already love you so much Penny Jo.

Happy birthday (yesterday)

I know we aren’t where we imagined we’d be, the city, state, country, house, or stage of life that we’d thought we’d be in at this point and this age, but when I look back and see the life the Lord has given us, when I see the evidence of Him leading us every step of the way I can’t help but be unimaginably grateful to be doing it next to you. The vulnerability and humility you carry in gently loving and guiding our family towards whatever the Lord brings our way is such a gift. 5 years ago when I said yes to marrying you I never imagined the man you’d be today and how proud I would be to be married to such a gifted, handsome, hard working man like you. You’re truly one of a kind my love, and all of your girls think you hung the moon 🌙 we love you so much.

Yesterday I was telling a friend some of my story which obviously turns into our story. The story of how you called me while I was in Nepal and told me you loved me and knew you wanted to marry me. I haven’t reflected much on me and you lately because the girls occupy so much brain space 😝 but I’m just as amazed today as I was that day that you love me, tell me I’m beautiful, and serve me and our girls so selflessly. I just couldn’t have comprehended at that time how important your life and love is to who I am and who I am becoming. Watching you train and do something you love is one of my greatest joys. Your joy is my joy, and I love you. You’re my favorite human ❤️

Fly fishing found me at a time in my life when I needed a place to wrestle with my thoughts fears and dreams. I dove straight in buying the gear going after work, on the weekends, whenever I could find time. There’s nothing like the quietness of the River, watching the sunrise and slowly come up over the mountain. I never hear from God like I hear from Him in the quietness of a morning fly fishing on the river, it restores my soul.

And then you came along and you loved fly fishing as much as I did. Now by God’s Grace we get to enjoy it together and Lord willing teach these three precious girls of ours how to do it too. WHAT A GIFT.
