The ceiling is often one of the most overlooked surfaces in a space, but it can have a major impact on how a room feels, functions, and is experienced.

From acoustics and lighting to scale, materiality, and visual interest, the "Fifth Wall" is more than just what's above us. It's another opportunity to design with intention.

A building's performance starts long before the finishes go in. A properly detailed weather barrier protects the wall assembly from air and water intrusion which helps preserve insulation, structure, and long-term performance.

At 100 South, thoughtful detailing, field observation, mock-ups, and submittal review helped ensure the barrier performed as intended.

There's something exciting about reaching the stage of a project where the building begins to feel real.

At Greene Beginnings in Bloomfield, the structure is taking shape, and you can finally walk the spaces that have existed on paper for months. Hallways become pathways for children, classrooms begin to take form, and the vision starts becoming reality.

This project represents much more than a new building. It's an investment in the future of Greene County—creating a safe, welcoming, and purpose-built environment where infants and toddlers can learn, grow, and thrive.

We believe every community deserves access to high-quality early childhood education facilities, regardless of its size. Projects like Greene Beginnings demonstrate the lasting impact thoughtful design can have on families, educators, and future generations.

Great restaurants are about more than great food.

They're places where people gather, celebrate, connect, and create lasting memories.

For Chef JJ's, the vision was to create a flexible, welcoming environment that could support everything from everyday dining to private events, cooking demonstrations, and community gatherings.

The open layout, communal seating, exposed brick, industrial finishes, and warm lighting work together to create a space that feels both inviting and functional. Every design decision was made to enhance the guest experience while supporting efficient operations behind the scenes.

Projects like this remind us that architecture is about more than buildings—it's about creating places where people want to spend time.

A new chapter begins for Cross of Grace Lutheran Church!

As the congregation celebrates 25 years of faith, fellowship, and serving the New Palestine community, we're excited to celebrate another incredible milestone, the groundbreaking of a new addition that will support the church's continued growth for generations to come.

This expansion is designed to create even more opportunities for worship, connection, and community. The project includes a larger, more accessible sanctuary, a welcoming fellowship hall, a coffee bar and lounge, an expanded kitchen to support gatherings and community events, and a dedicated children's play area for the youngest members of the congregation.

We're incredibly grateful to be part of this journey and can't wait to watch this vision become a place where people gather, grow, and create lasting memories for years to come. Congratulations to Cross of Grace on 25 remarkable years. We're honored to help build what's next!

Every project begins with an idea.

Before construction starts, renderings help our clients visualize the future—allowing us to explore design concepts, evaluate materials, and ensure the space will support the needs of those who use it.

These images show that process in action at a project for Joe's Kids

The original rendering envisioned a flexible recreation and gathering space featuring a multi-purpose court, stage area, and custom acoustic ceiling clouds designed to enhance both aesthetics and acoustics. Today, that vision has become reality.

Seeing the completed space closely reflect the original design intent is always rewarding, but even more meaningful is knowing the impact it will have on the children, families, and community members who will use it for years to come.

From early sketches and renderings to construction and occupancy, every project is a collaborative effort focused on creating spaces that serve people well.

Halstead Architects is proud to celebrate the grand opening of The Porch, the newest addition to the Shepherd Community Center campus.

Working alongside Shepherd Community Center has been a privilege, and we're grateful to continue supporting their incredible mission to serve the Indianapolis community.

Once an auto parts store, this thoughtfully transformed space now serves as the campus's welcoming "front door" to the neighborhood. The Porch features offices, classrooms, and a barbershop. All designed to create opportunities for connection, learning, and support.

Congratulations to Shepherd Community Center on this exciting milestone. We're honored to have been part of bringing this vision to life and look forward to seeing the lasting impact The Porch will have for years to come.
