Flashback Friday!🗓️🔄
Five years ago, the Healing Garden at IU Health Bloomington opened to provide a thrapeutic landscape where patients, families, and staff could find respite from life happening inside the hospital walls.
 
Today the landscape has grown and matured, shaped by time and by the people who find a quiet moment there each day.
 
Recognized with and Award of Excellence by the Indiana Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects, this projects is a reminder that great design doesn’t stand still; it grows, adapts, and becomes more meaningful with time.

September 2026 - Design in Motion. Work in Progress. 
As we head into ASLA conference season, we’re dedicating the month to projects that are still taking shape, from initial design sketches to constructed spaces marking major milestone anniversaries. Congratulations to Brownsburg High School as they were honored on August 31 at the US Open with the USTA Outstanding Facility Award for their new tennis facility! They were among 12 winners nationwide in the Educational Institutions category.
 
The newly opened Brownsburg High School Tennis Facility has become a premier destination for tennis in the central Indiana region. Featuring a total of 21 courts, 15 pool play courts and 6 enhanced courts, the complex has transformed an underutilized parcel into a unique home of both high school sports and beyond. 
 
From the onset, the goal of the project was to deliver a premier competition venue that highlights and enhances the aspirations of Brownsburg’s tennis program. The courts themselves feature high-performance coatings and state-of-the-art post-tensioned concrete designed for maximum consistency and playability. Space was provided across the site for dedicated team and player areas to provide coaching and preparation for high-stakes competition. Special attention was paid by the design team to the spectators’ experiences. The facility provides a wide range of seating opportunities and has conscientiously worked to provide viewing opportunities to all of the courts. A spectator services building provides restrooms and concessions and meeting space that can be used as a team or hospitality area depending on the event. This attention to facility-wide detail was on full display when the complex played host to a recent ATP Tour event, bringing professional tennis to Brownsburg for the first time. 
 
The complex has set a new bar for high school tennis competition in Indiana. With its breadth of courts, expansive spectator facilities, dedicated team and coaching areas, the Brownsburg High School Tennis Facility will be an outstanding sports destination for both high school and professional activity for years to come! Congratulations!

This August, we explored Where Learning Meets Landscape- from early childhood classrooms all the way to high school football fields- curiosity, creativity, and connection are rooted in these spaces.
