🏗️ WHAT’S NEXT FOR INDIANAPOLIS? 👀

If you work in construction, you’ve probably noticed it — Indianapolis is BUILDING.

From downtown to the airport and throughout Central Indiana, there are some major projects taking shape, with even more on the horizon.

🏨 The Signia by Hilton & Indiana Convention Center expansion is moving toward completion, bringing a 38-story hotel and expanded convention space downtown.

✈️ The new Westin at Indianapolis International Airport has officially topped out, with the hotel expected to open by the end of 2027.

🏥 The massive IU Health downtown hospital campus continues to rise, transforming approximately 44 acres on the north side of downtown.

🏙️ And projects like the Georgia Street redevelopment, Traction Yards, new downtown hotels and additional mixed-use developments mean there is plenty more construction ahead.

For those of us in the steel and construction industries, it’s exciting to watch our city continue to grow.

🔥 Now we want to hear from our construction community:

What upcoming Indianapolis-area project are YOU most excited about — or what project should be on everyone’s radar right now?

👇 Drop the project name in the comments. We may feature some of them in an upcoming post!

🏗️ DID YOU KNOW? 🏗️

Steel doesn’t have to be brand new to be strong. In fact, steel is one of the most recycled materials in the world! ♻️

Steel can be recycled again and again while retaining its key properties—which means steel from an old building, bridge, vehicle, or appliance can eventually find its way into something completely new.

At HG Metals, we get to see what steel can become every day—from beams and stairs to rails and custom-fabricated pieces that help bring a project to life. 🔩🔥

💬 HERE’S THE CHALLENGE: Look around you right now. How many things can you spot that are made from steel?

Drop your number in the comments! 👇 We want to see who can find the most.

Built strong. Built to last. Built with steel.

🔩 Steel in 2026: Why Planning Ahead Matters More Than Ever

Steel is everywhere.

It’s in the buildings we work in, the hospitals we depend on, the stadiums we cheer in, the warehouses that keep businesses moving, and the infrastructure connecting our communities.

But behind every piece of fabricated steel is an industry that is constantly changing.

In 2026, steel pricing, tariffs, material availability, domestic production, and lead times continue to be important conversations throughout the construction industry. For general contractors, project managers, estimators, and steel fabricators, these changes can have a real impact on how projects are planned and executed.

And that makes one thing increasingly important:

Early steel coordination.

Waiting until a project is well underway to begin thinking about steel procurement, fabrication, and installation can create challenges that extend far beyond the steel package itself.

Material needs to be sourced. Shop drawings need to be coordinated and approved. Steel needs to be fabricated, finished, delivered, and installed — all while working within the overall construction schedule.

When material prices or availability change, those timelines can become even more important.

🏗️ Steel Fabrication Is More Than Welding

When people think about a steel fabricator, they often picture sparks flying in a fabrication shop.

And while welding is certainly part of what we do, there is much more happening behind the scenes.

Every successful steel package requires estimating, purchasing, detailing, project management, fabrication, quality control, transportation, field coordination, and installation.

One delay early in that process can affect several steps that come afterward.

That is why communication between the fabricator, general contractor, design team, suppliers, and field personnel is so important.

🔩 Planning Today Helps Protect Tomorrow's Schedule

The earlier steel fabricators are brought into the conversation, the more opportunity there is to identify potential issues before they reach the field.

Can the material be sourced within the required timeframe?

Are there details that need clarification?

Does the fabrication schedule match the construction schedule?

Are delivery and installation properly coordinated?

Those conversations may seem small early in a project, but they can make a BIG difference later.

At HG Metals, we believe successful steel fabrication isn't simply about producing a finished piece of steel.

It's about being a dependable partner from bid to fabrication to installation.

The steel industry will continue to change. Material costs will fluctuate. Technology will advance. Projects will become more complex, and schedules will continue to move quickly.

But some things won't change:

Quality matters. Communication matters. Planning matters. And strong partnerships matter.

Because at the end of the day, we aren't just fabricating steel.

We're helping build what's next. 🔩🏗️

💬 We'd love to hear from our construction friends: What is having the biggest impact on your projects right now — material pricing, lead times, scheduling, or labor?

08/21/2026

🏗️ LET’S TALK STEEL — WHAT MATTERS MOST TO YOU?

When choosing a steel fabricator for your next project, what’s the ONE thing you refuse to compromise on?

🔹 Quality & craftsmanship

🔹 On-time delivery

🔹 Communication & responsiveness

🔹 Competitive pricing

🔹 Experience & problem-solving

🔹 Something else?

👇 We want to hear from you! Drop your #1 priority in the comments — and tell us why it matters.

At HG Metals, we know a successful steel package is about more than fabrication. It’s about having a partner who communicates, solves problems, meets commitments, and helps keep the project moving.

Let’s see what we can build together.
