Downing Downing's mission is to be the preferred construction resource for growing companies. DESIGN. BUILD. SUCCESS.® Downing Construction Inc. was founded in 1966 by D.

Robert (Bob) Downing. Bob started with one 8-by-20 foot trailer, one employee, and two trucks. By the 1970’s Downing built nearly half the houses constructed in Indianola, Iowa. Since its inception the leaders inside Downing have leaned toward opportunity and change allowing it to become what it is today. What once was a successful local residential construction company has become a thriving regional commercial construction company whose reach continues to grow. In 2019 Justin Brown and Joe Butler took over full ownership of Downing. Together they focused on creating an environment that attracts talent and like minded individuals to come together in collaboration and creativity. By early 2020, architecture and interior design services became a part of Downing's single source solution, providing our clients with the best possible experience in a true design build environment. Scott Schurman joined the ownership group in 2023. At Downing we are incredibly proud of our history and very excited about our future. Our team is committed and we are driven to deliver the results our clients have come to expect.

Two cities. Two evenings. So many women in dentistry coming together to share their experiences and perspectives.

CrownHer Collective brought The Art of Her to Iowa City and Des Moines this month. Both evenings were filled with meaningful conversation, new connections, and a strong sense of community.

We're proud to partner with U.S. Bank and Edge Advisors to create opportunities like these for women in dentistry.

Thank you to Kate Moreland and Liz Lidgett for sharing their stories with us. And thank you to every woman who joined us along the way!

Last week, we welcomed our team, families, friends, and community to celebrate 60 years of Downing Construction.

It was a great afternoon honoring Bob and Ardene Downing and celebrating what they started 60 years ago, alongside so many of the people who have helped make Downing what it is today.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the afternoon so special! And a special thank you to Winn & Sara’s Kitchen, Blush & Bloom, and Ryan Damman Photography for helping us make the celebration one to remember.

Trading drawings for masonry tools! 🧱

Members of our architecture team spent a morning at Marshalltown Tools getting hands-on with setting masonry units, tooling and pointing joints, and learning about masonry products. A factory tour rounded out the continuing education session with a look at how the tools are made.

Thanks to Masonry Institute of Iowa, Marshalltown Tools, Brickworks, and others for an opportunity to learn by doing!

The best way to understand what goes into a dental project? Get out in the field and see it firsthand.

We recently brought members of our design and construction teams together with KCL Engineering for a rough-in walkthrough focused on the systems, details, and coordination unique to dental construction. Thanks Nick & Jake for helping coordinate this opportunity to ask questions, learn from each other, and give more of our team firsthand exposure to this specialized work.

The more knowledge we can build and share across our team, the better we can serve our dental clients.
