Another exterior project wrapped up in Amador Pines! 🏡

From the siding and eaves to the doors, window trim, and roofline details, there's a lot that goes into giving a home a clean, refreshed look.

And what you don't always see in the finished photos is the work that happens before the paint goes on. The washing, scraping, sanding, priming, and caulking all play an important role in getting the surfaces ready for a lasting finish.

Sometimes a painting project sounds simple enough to do yourself, until you start looking into everything involved.

A lot of homeowners plan to tackle painting projects themselves, but realize there's more to it than just picking up a brush.

The prep work, having the right tools and equipment, knowing which products work together, protecting the areas you don't want painted, and finding the time to get it all done.

It can be a lot more work than you expected.

There's nothing wrong with doing it yourself.

But sometimes it's worth leaving the painting to someone who does it every day.

Wrapped up this exterior in Pioneer.

Quite a change from where we started.

The reddish brown is gone, the new deep green fits this property really well, and the lighter brick changed the whole front of the house.

There was plenty to handle before we got there. Loose and peeling paint to scrape, splintered wood to sand, exposed wood to spot prime, and windows that needed caulking.

Now the exterior is finished and looking right at home among the pines.

This project came to us through one of our contractor partners, and we’ll definitely be back.

Next up for us is the interior.

We like projects like this.

Good people to work with, good work to do, and another part of the house waiting for us.

Looking for a dark exterior color without going straight to black?

Dunn-Edwards Stargazing (DE6336) is a deep charcoal gray that can work well on front doors, trim, and other exterior accents.

Dark colors like this can add contrast without taking over the whole exterior. And like any color, it’s worth seeing it against the actual siding, stone, wood, and surrounding light before making the final decision.

A two-inch color chip only tells you so much.

A little behind the scenes from this exterior project in Pioneer. The team is spraying the garage and working through another part of the exterior.

Spray work might look like the quick part on camera, but getting clean results means being deliberate about what gets painted and what doesn’t.
