Setting new trees up for success! 🌳

In windy locations, or when a tree’s size or root stability requires extra support, temporary staking can help keep the root ball stable while the tree becomes established. Proper staking should allow for some natural movement and sway in the wind, which helps encourage stronger trunk and root development. In most cases, stakes should be removed after the first growing season so the tree can continue building strength naturally.

We also install trunk protection to help prevent damage from lawn equipment, wildlife, and other environmental stressors. Adding a mulch ring helps retain soil moisture, regulate soil temperature, reduce w**d competition, and protect the trunk from mower and string trimmer damage.

A little rain wasn’t going to stop us this morning. 🌧️🌿

Our team spent the morning setting up the Summer of the Arts beer garden in downtown Iowa City, complete with a raised planter bed full of native plants and a giant Catalpa tree.

Right in front of the Old Capitol, it’s one of the coolest locations we get to work at all year.

We’re grateful to partner with Summer of the Arts and help create a place where people can gather, enjoy great music, and make memories in a community we love.

See you at Arts Fest and Jazz Fest! 🎭 🍻🎶🌳

Mulch does more than give your landscape a clean, finished look - it’s one of the best tools for conserving moisture and protecting plant health. 🙌 By helping the soil retain water, mulch reduces evaporation, keeps roots cooler during hot summer days, suppresses w**ds, and can even improve soil quality over time as organic materials break down.

A fresh layer of mulch can make a big difference in the health and efficiency of your landscape all season long. 🌿

Did You Know?

Iowa’s native frogs & toads are backyard helpers! 🐸 Frogs and toads do much more than provide a soundtrack for summer evenings; they play an important role in maintaining healthy ecosystems. These native amphibians help naturally control insect populations, serve as indicators of environmental health, and contribute to a balanced landscape.

Creating wildlife-friendly spaces with native plants, water sources, and reduced chemical use can help support these beneficial species while enhancing the beauty and biodiversity of your property.

Every healthy landscape is part of a larger ecosystem, and even the smallest visitors can make a big impact. 💚

Lots of new plants getting settled into their forever home. 🌿🌸

We love a good planting day! 💪

There’s something really rewarding about creating landscapes that do more than just fill space. 🌿

More blooms, more pollinators, more movement and color - all while creating spaces people can actually enjoy and connect with.

That balance is what we love most about this work. 🌎

Not every landscape feature is just for looks. 👀💧

Projects like these are designed to help direct water away from the home and keep runoff from washing out surrounding landscaping. Using drainage rock, pavers, and edging creates a clean path for water flow while blending naturally into the landscape design.

It’s a simple upgrade that helps reduce erosion, minimize standing water, and protect both the landscape and foundation over time. Functional AND good-looking is the end goal. 🌧️

Every great landscape starts with the prep work . 🌱 Before the plants, mulch, and finishing touches go in, we shape and define the bed lines to give the space structure and flow.

It may not be the flashiest part of the project, but good prep is what sets a landscape up for success.

Plant this, not that. 🌿

Native plants can give you the same color, texture, and visual impact you love while also supporting local ecosystems, pollinators, and wildlife here in Iowa.

Swipe 👉 to see few native swaps we love!

These native alternatives are often better adapted to Iowa’s climate and soils, require less maintenance once established, and provide real ecological benefits throughout the seasons.

You don’t have to sacrifice beauty to plant more sustainably. You can absolutely have both! 🌎
