D.C. Tattam Restoration

D.C. Tattam Restoration I'd have to say being a restorer of antiques, I'm asked to assess what is usually the good, sometimes the bad, and unfortunately (but rarely) the ugly.

Being what I am continually puts me at the crossroads of where the collector, designer and seller make their decisions. Often these decisions relate directly to what is achievable with restoration. Whether it be color change, replacement of losses long gone, or even complete reconstructions, my work invariably puts an antique item back on the map- maybe as a landmark. What I hope to achieve with t

his FaceBook page is to share interest in what I do by revealing through photos and commentary the big, as well as the little moments of buzz we all take for granted; the before-and-after shots, a wildly colored pigment, or a chair covered in a swarm of clamps looking more sculptural than purposeful. Maybe it's YOUR project being put in a special light. I'm not going to list every single procedure my workshop performs. That would be like asking a piano maker if they know how to restring a piano. As this FaceBook page grows and evolves, the breadth of what I do (and have done) shall become apparent. Trust me when I say 20 years of antique restoration has exposed me to a great deal. And, needless to say, a great deal of success.

Elliptic Table made by me, designed by Frank Roop (Arch.Digest listed designer). African Sapelli Mahogany and marble. A nice play on a fluted column. I made three or four of these in conjunction with other free-standing and built-in items using exotic veneers and designs for his various clients.
