Plumbing Myth: Flushable wipes break down easily.
Plumbing Fact: 'Flushable' wipes are often responsible for major clogs.

Despite what the packaging may say, these products often do not live up to what they claim. They may flush, but will not go very far. "Flushable" wipes are often responsible for major clogs down the line.

If you must use them, throw them in the trash to save your plumbing and prevent a potential clog.

Plumbing Myth: Garbage disposals can handle just about anything.

Plumbing Fact: Garbage disposals are not designed to break down everything that is edible.

Some things that should NOT go in the garbage disposal:
-Coffee grounds
-Starchy foods (bread, pasta, rice, etc.)
-Shells, nuts, and vegetable peels
-Grease, oil, and cooking fat
-Fibrous/stringy foods (pumpkins, celery, asparagus, etc.)

In the event of an emergency, do you know how to shut off the water to your house? The most common location for a shut off valve is in the ground next to your house. Some newer homes may have one in the garage. It is important to locate yours to minimize damage should an emergency occur.
