Ten Safety Tips for Working in the Heat:

1. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids. Drink about 16 ounces before starting and 5 to 7 ounces every 15 or 20 minutes.
2. Avoid alcohol, coffee, tea and caffeinated soft drinks.
3. Wear protective clothing that is lightweight, light colored and loose fitting. Change clothing if it gets completely saturated.
4. Slow down and work at an even pace. Know your own limits and ability to work safely in heat.
5. Schedule frequent rest periods and water breaks in a shaded or air conditioned area.
6. Use a damp rag to wipe your face and/or put around your neck.
7. Use sunscreen and wear a hat if working outside to avoid getting sunburn.
8. Check on other workers that might be at high risk. Be alert to signs of heat related illness.
9. Avoid or block out direct sun if possible.
10. Eat smaller meals. Eat fruits high in fiber and natural juice but avoid high protein foods.

It may not come as a surprise to discover that concrete is incredibly widely used; it is, in fact, used more than any other material in the world – perhaps because the aggregates and water used to create concrete are available virtually everywhere. However it might be more surprising to learn that 20 billion tons are put to use every year, with China being the largest consumer of concrete in the world, responsible for half of the world’s concrete annually!
