I like to thank Bickerstaff Hardscaping for inviting Us to assist with this stellar project. I also would like to extend my gratitude to the homeowners because without their passion and vision, none of this would of been possible. This project had it all. Please enjoy

Good Morning, it's like Hell froze over except Hell is Westmoreland County. Drive and WALK with extreme care today. That is all.

A while back Norm Lachimia Jr., a landscape specialist, took time for a quick conversation about pruning. So without further adieu...

Let's talk a little bit about pruning. Gardeners have been pruning for thousands of years to create desired shapes, prevent excessive growth, and encourage fruits and flowers to blossom. Pruning DOES promote growth by removing the right limbs. Lets say we have a pear tree, by pruning you can create a tall, narrower tree that climbs a post on your patio while also helping it produce larger, juicier fruit, a.k.a. a healthier tree.

The tools you use in the garden should be the best you can afford. Cheap tools rust, break, dull and can hurt you or your plant. Keep them clean, sharp and well oiled even before storing them. This keeps then from rusting and being difficult to use the following spring. The must have tools are pruning shears followed by a folding pruning saw, a sharp knife, and finally long armed loppers. There are two types of pruning shears, anvil and bypass. Anvil, when compressed has a blade that rests on a flat piece of steel and the bypass has two blades that pass each other. Bypass is recommended because it makes a cleaner cut opposed to the anvil type which could cause a soft limb to smash against the flat steel.

A level of skill is required, and achieved only through proper knowledge you obtain in books and in the field. With the best tools available and a few pointers you can tame any unruly shrub or tree while creating your perfect garden. Know your Green. Know your Dream. Achieve your Goal!

I've been on the going green kick lately. Doing the little things like using all parts of the paper towel, before burning it. So why not recycle our plants too. My neighbors have an apiary (you know, like bees and the honey thing) and I'm excited to say I'm going to try this tomorrow and I'll post pictures of my progress. Check it out.

The client wanted us to build beds for them. However, they weren't ready to install plants. No big deal, there's no project too small for G.D.L. All Beds are edge, fabric, and at least 3-4" of topsoil to each one as well.

The client desired more parking. However, their property sloped down hill away from driveway. We decided to build a boulder wall to keep driveway level which was approximately 125' x 4' and we extednded the driveway by 20'. The client felt the project was a success and we couldn't be happier.

The client desired a fence in her back yard so she could let her dog roam around outside.

Nature, plants, they never cease to amaze. And this story is no different. What the Dutch are doing with advanced research on extracting electricity from plants is astonishing and cool! It made us here at Green Dream think a little bit more about renewable energy as well as our plant friends. And if you go to their website http://plant-e.com/, there are a few videos there that show and explain the process even more. Check it out! Just another step to saving our planet and move away from non-renewable energy.

Plant-e, a company based out of the Netherlands, has found a way to harness electricity from living plants, using them to power Wi-Fi hotspots, cell phone chargers, and even streetlights. The company debuted their project, called “Starry Sky,” in November of 2014 near Amsterdam, where they lit up mo…
