During the recent Plants and Pints gathering at the new Grand River Farmers Market, one of our members hosted an information table. She reported an abundance of interest in our group, becoming an MSU Extension Master Gardener, and general gardening questions.

It’s time to look into signing up for MSUE Foundations of Gardening. This is the course which is required for you to become a certified Master Gardener. You may take the course for your own enrichment also.
We are currently in the scholarship application period.

A new project for us this year is the Beautification of the Crouch Senior Center entrance. The JCMGA team and county staff removed the overgrown shrubs and roots, soil was brought in and many shade-loving plants were donated and purchased to fill in the garden space! A combination of Brunnera, hostas, bleeding heart, Solomon seal, Japanese ferns, lungwort, hellebores as well as native wild ginger and Hairy Beard Tongue from Birtlebee out of Concord. Hats off to young Judah who made an immense contribution of lifting, placing and digging. Next up is the watering and mulching! Stop by and see our progress!!!

The September Green Thumb project at Crouch Senior Center was a very cool fairy garden. Participants painted leaves or mushrooms and received plants to assemble their unique novelty gardens! Thanks to Marla and the Green Thumb team for coming up with such fun projects!!!!

For our August General Membership Meeting we took a field trip to nearby Sandhill Crane Vineyards. Shelly gave us a guided tour among the vines and gave us an informative review of growing two different types of grapes that they use in their w**es. Many members enjoyed w**e tasting, w**e slushes, light meals and delicious desserts.
