Flashback to 2023! ⏰ Eley Guild Hardy Architects earned a Merit Award for the CTA Gulfport Transit Center. Moving people and excellence.
This adaptive reuse is an excellent example of a building that might have been hard to reimagine in less skillful hands. The layout of the functions, the choice of materials to preserve and the celebration of key features is pleasing. The resulting restored grandeur of this example of midcentury architecture is well done. The jury admired the project's contribution to the development of the larger site, and applauded the contribution to a nationwide movement to appreciate and preserve mid-century modernism.
