Flashback to 2024! ⏰ JBHM Architecture earned a Citation for the Mississippi University for Women Culinary Arts Building. This project showed us how to blend education with amazing spaces.

Mississippi University for Women envisioned a modern culinary arts building with a unique facade blending classic materials and contemporary design. The curved front influenced both interior and exterior design, fostering a focused learning atmosphere where integrated technology enhances the educational experience. The jury was compelled to acknowledge this work of architecture for its undeniable qualities and attention to detail, proportion, and craft.

Fresh creative energy coming through! 🎨 Kudzu Collective took home a Merit Award for Lagniappe Leland. This project brings that special something to the table, with great design and local character. Fantastic work!

These three dilapidated storefronts were meticulously recreated, resulting in a beautiful facade that adds life and character to the streetscape. The jury noted the attention to detail and historic reference in the design of the new wood storefronts, entry doors and custom awnings. The new arched openings, which showcase the original brick walls, were thoughtfully placed to create visual and physical connections between the three spaces.

Register for an exclusive AIAMS tour for 1 HSW 👀 Originally opened in 1979 as the Russell C. Davis Planetarium, this iconic downtown landmark has inspired more than one million visitors and generations of Mississippi students through science, astronomy, and space exploration. After more than four decades of service, aging infrastructure created the opportunity to completely reimagine the facility for a new generation of learners. CDFL designed the 30,000-square-foot renovation and expansion that transformed the historic facility into the McNair–Davis Planetarium, honoring astronaut Dr. Ronald E. McNair while preserving the architectural legacy of Thomas Biggs. The comprehensive project reimagines the planetarium as a state-of-the-art STEM education destination through a new digital dome theater, immersive exhibits, flexible learning environments, and a dramatic new public entrance that connects the planetarium with the adjacent Arts Center of Mississippi. Rather than simply renovating the existing building, CDFL developed a comprehensive vision that expands the planetarium’s educational mission while creating an engaging civic destination for downtown Jackson.

2025 Honor Award! 🎯 Duvall Decker's Small Arms Training Center is proof that even the most utilitarian building can be award-worthy architecture. The envelope, 8" tilt-up concrete panels wrapped in a vented brick rainscreen, is built to beat Mississippi's heat and humidity. Passive strategies do the heavy lifting: a reflective metal roof, convection-driven walls, and a perforated sunshade that filters southern light into the classroom. One juror called it a "straight-shooting" building, simple in form yet deeply intentional. Even the recessed brick and pilasters nod to the trajectory of a bullet, tying design to purpose. Clarity, restraint, performance.
