Following up on our last post about the Medina home — the roof outside is sealed up and done. Now we're doing the interior demo to see how far the damage goes.
Once we pulled the trim, we found mold growth from the moisture that had been getting in. We use a moisture meter to check how wet the drywall is before deciding how much to remove — in this case it extended almost to the far corner and ran under a window, which may have its own separate leak worth checking.
We also found signs of a repair attempt from years ago — the original insulation is an older yellow fiberglass, with newer pink Owens Corning insulation patched in at some point. Whoever did that repair never fixed the actual problem outside, so the damage kept happening.
One more finding: the gutters on this section are 5-inch, and they can't keep up with how much water funnels into this one spot. Upsizing to 6-inch would help prevent future overflow.
