Congratulations to our Asphalt Mix Designer, Caleb Mathews, for earning his Superpave Mix Design Technician Certification through NCAT for the state of Georgia! This certification means Caleb is trained and certified to perform and understand asphalt mix design procedures using the Superpave system required by GDOT.

And bonus! Our ATS Mix Labs have been approved by GDOT to design and test mixes for the state of Georgia!

From building their own “mix designs” to exploring the plant, labs, and heavy equipment, these young visitors got a hands-on look at the people and processes behind our industry.

New digs! We've added a new lab space to be home for our Performance Testing and Mix Design labs! Our team got to check out the empty space last week, which will soon be filled with testing equipment, scales, molds, samples, aggregates, materials and more! Stay tuned to see the progress!

Thank you to Asphalt Pro Magazine for sharing this story and highlighting the importance of introducing young kids to our industry in a fun, hands-on way.

We loved welcoming these future builders, engineers, operators, and innovators to Duval Asphalt and ATS. From Coco Krispie mix designs to "testing" Play-Doh, it was incredible to watch curiosity turn into excitement.

Workforce development starts with awareness, and we’re proud to help inspire the next generation by showing them the people, science, and teamwork behind the roads we use every day.

Ever thought about introducing kids to asphalt at age 4?

Duval Asphalt and ATS showed that workforce development doesn’t have to wait until adulthood. By hosting a hands-on plant and lab tour for young children, they turned complex asphalt concepts into simple, memorable lessons.

Using familiar items like Coco Krispie treats and Play-Doh, the team explained mix design and material behavior in a way kids could understand. Interactive activities—like building their own “mix” and sitting in equipment—kept engagement high.

Making learning relatable and fun can leave a lasting impression and build early interest in the trades. Even simple demonstrations can help communities better understand what asphalt professionals do every day.

Last week ATS team members Tanya and Molly exhibited at the Texas Asphalt Pavement Association (TXAPA) MAPS Houston-Humble event. This 2-day conference brings practical, real-world insight to the challenges cities and counties face in managing their pavement networks. (And PLEASE, Houston, get rid of all those concrete roads!)

Their time included visits to Martin Asphalt, Texas Materials, and Kraton Corporation. It's always great to catch up with our customers and collaborators!
