Renew. Refresh. Restore.
Your home. Our priority.

This front bay window damage wasn’t cosmetic.

The metal components between the window sections are factory-formed and integral to the window assembly. They are permanently tied into the structural frame, glazing retention system, and weather-seal. These parts are non-serviceable and cannot be repaired or replaced independently without disassembling the entire window unit.

Any attempt to straighten or repair this metal would:
• Compromise factory seals
• Risk glass breakage and frame distortion
• Allow air and moisture intrusion
• Violate manufacturer specifications and building code

That’s not a proper repair — that’s a shortcut.

Insurance companies often try to label damage like this as “repairable,” but repairs that ignore manufacturer requirements do not restore a home to pre-loss condition.

We go the extra mile for our customers, even on the details insurance companies refuse to pay attention to. Sometimes getting full replacement cost value comes down to explaining the technical facts, manufacturer specs, and proper installation standards — and we do that every time.

The goal isn’t a quick settlement check.
The goal is proper restoration done the right way.

Renew. Refresh. Restore.
Your home. Our priority.

📐 Quality Control + Building Code = Long-Term Protection

“These photos are from a roof that was replaced this year.

No names. No finger pointing.

This post is about quality control and why building code matters, even on brand-new work — and even when the contractor is local or has been around for many years.

The International Residential Code (IRC) is an internationally adopted building code that sets the minimum standards all residential contractors are required to follow. These standards exist to manage water properly and prevent premature failure.

On this roof, several items were observed that fall outside those minimum standards:

• No shingle overhang at the gutter apron, allowing water to track behind the metal instead of shedding properly
• Metal flashing showing rust and deterioration, meaning it is no longer corrosion-resistant as required by code
• Rotted siding at a roof-to-wall (headwall) area, which is a strong indicator of missing or improperly layered flashing
• Terminal shingles not mechanically fastened, relying only on adhesive, which is not an approved fastening method

These are not cosmetic preferences. These are water-management failures.

This is why quality control matters — not just trusting that something is “new” or assuming it’s correct because a contractor has experience or a good reputation. Even small details, when done incorrectly, can lead to:
• Water intrusion
• Rot behind siding
• Mold
• Interior leaks
• Shortened roof life

Building code is not optional. It is the baseline.
And quality control is how you make sure that baseline is actually met.

It always pays to double-check the details.”

📍 Jamestown, North Dakota

Excited to officially bring Interstate Exteriors to Jamestown and the surrounding communities.

I’ve personally handled over 500 insurance claims, been involved in the reroofing of over 1,000 homes, and have worked as a general contractor for over 14 years, with 20+ years of hands-on construction experience.

I’ve also worked on projects and facility management for large national companies including Walmart, Target, Walgreens, O’Reilly Auto Parts, and REI. That background gives me a broad perspective — if you have questions beyond just roofing or siding, I can usually give you a straight, knowledgeable answer.

I help homeowners:
✔ Identify underpaid or missed damage
✔ Navigate reinspections and supplements
✔ Understand policy coverages and options
✔ Make informed decisions — no pressure, ever

Many homeowners don’t realize they often have up to two years from the date of loss to request a reinspection. Even if your claim was already paid, it may still be worth another look.

📸 Today’s job: installing gutter covers and high-flow downspouts on a home we completed earlier this year. The homeowner chose to keep their existing gutters — they still have decades of life — and upgrade performance instead.

If you have questions about roofs, gutters, insurance claims, or general construction, feel free to reach out. I’m happy to review your policy and help ensure you’re treated fairly under North Dakota insurance laws.

Proud to be here. Ready to help Jamestown and the surrounding communities.

What you see in these photos isn’t harmless snow — it’s water backing up under your shingles.

❄️ Melt → Refreeze → Trapped water → Interior damage

⚠️ Roof rakes and hacked ice can DAMAGE shingles and cause insurance denials later.

🏠 Proper Roof Ventilation Matters — Here’s Why 🛠️

When we opened up this roof, it became clear that improper ventilation had been a major issue for this home. Over time, poor airflow traps moisture, leading to problems like rotting wood, damaged insulation, and even mold growth inside your rafters.

This home had an old firewall left over from a garage addition, which was blocking cross ventilation. After assessing the situation on-site, I made a game-time decision to open the firewall temporarily, allowing airflow from the existing dormer vents on one side to connect with a new box vent we installed on the other.

This will create a continuous cross-flow of air from one end of the roof to the other — keeping moisture under control and helping extend the life of the roof. Repairs to the interior will be made later, but for now, we’ve stopped further damage in its tracks without disturbing potential mold areas unnecessarily.

Bottom line: If your roof isn’t breathing, it’s breaking.
Proper ventilation is one of the most important — and most overlooked — parts of a roofing system.
