The mornings have started to feel different up here in the gorge. The grass that was pushing hard all July is starting to slow down, and that shift is exactly when how you cut it starts to matter more than how often.

August is the tail end of peak growth around here. You can already see it in the browning tips and the uneven patches where the heat has been working on the turf. A rough-looking lawn in August usually gets blamed on the mowing schedule. When we look at a stressed yard around Jasper, the first thing we check is cut height against the heat.

In peak August across the Sequatchie Valley, cutting too short stresses the roots, burns the tips, and opens the yard up to drought damage no mowing schedule can fix. Raising the cut height by even an inch during the hottest weeks holds moisture in the soil longer and protects the root zone. More mowing at the wrong height only makes it worse.
