How the world should work. There are many amazing people in the world and yesterday I became aware of two more.
I dramatically underestimated the danger, difficulty and time required to do this certain job. My bid was way low. I had several subs accept the job but after visiting the site backed out.
The homeowner's were desperate as selling their home was contingent on the work being completed. I assured them not to worry and that I wasn't going to let them down. They shocked me by offering more money. It was my mistake, not theirs and I had already given my price so that wasn't an option.
Nick Swathout came to the rescue. After expenses, time and travel I wasn't going to break even. Plus I had to help to get the job finished. Don't let me fool you, Nick outworked me 300-1 and he did a great job!
When the time came to settle up, they did and then they gave me a card. Inside the card was a nice thank you note and $500. I was flabbergasted and didn't know what to say. Instinctively I tried to decline, I was taken so off guard. They said they talked about it and asked me to please accept it, that they would feel better and that it was the right thing to do.

I'm still dazed and in awe, yet very appreciative for what they did when they didn't have to. This story proves that going above and beyond, keeping your word and paying for your own mistakes is worth it. It's the only way. This story also reminds me to give when unexpected, to treat people fairly and how giving can dramatically effect a friend, a stranger or a customer's day, week or life.
