Rock River Community Gardens The Rock River Community Garden is located along West Riverview Drive and Garity Street in the city of Jefferson, WI.

Rock River Community Garden is located along West Riverview Drive at Garity Street on approximately one acre of land recently purchased through the FEMA Flood Recovery Funds. This garden will provide people that may have limited outdoor space an opportunity to grow their own fresh food and enhance their health at the same time. Community gardening provides common ground for people to grow their ow

n vegetables or flowers, and build strong communities. Benefits of gardening include raising fresh produce and saving money, learning new gardening skills, as well as providing a venue for outdoors activity for families and individuals. Individual plots will be approximately 10 x 10 in size. The Parks Department will till the plots prior to the growing season. Compost bins will be available for disposal of weeds that have not gone to seed. A water supply will also be available on site.

Soaring for Service was Thursday afternoon for Jefferson High School. Teachers, students and Jefferson County Master Gardeners worked together to beautify Rock River Community Garden and get it ready for the summer gardening season. Volunteering in the community is highlighted on this day. Everyone worked really hard! Nice job Jefferson High School!

Love Begins Here is a mission for youth in Wisconsin. Beginning the summer of 2009, Love Begins Here has volunteered over 130,000 hours of service. This week they spent some time in Jefferson at our Rock River Community Garden. They rocked it! We appreciate all the work they accomplished with smiles on their faces. Not bad for middle schoolers and amazing adult leaders. Thank you! We felt the LOVE!

Jefferson High School Soaring to Service students and teachers made a huge difference at Rock River Community Garden yesterday afternoon! The students were so hard working, removing weeds, spreading mulch and planting flowers donated by Jefferson FFA! Thank you to their teachers Kathryn Steib, Cassandra Pacelli, and Gary Olson for all their help and “can do attitude” and for making a difference in our community. Mr. Olson brought down a tractor to the project which enabled us to accomplish much more and was a key to all of our success! Nice job Jefferson High School!
