So here we are on the big day of the snowstorm. Fortunately you’ve heated the word of many news cast of putting covers over your faucets if they’re not frostproof, leave your water, running at a stream, know where your main shut off valve is, open cabinet doors to plumbing that is on outside walls, apply heat lamps to any outdoor plumbing.
I would also like to add that if you have crawlspaces with these type of vents that you should cover them with cardboard or foam. I have already repaired two lines that were near crawlspace vents.
I would also like to add to be sure to raise the temperature in your house so that your crawlspaces will stay somewhat warmer, avoiding any freezing that may occur.
If you have a fireplace that you have not used in a long while and have not had cleaned, I would advise not using due to the fact there may be obstructions that you would be unaware of in the chimney.
Earlier this week, I had also made a repair on waterlines that were only a foot deep and were connected with a quick connect fitting that is susceptible to failing once freezing. Unfortunately, at this point, the only recourse you have is to keep your water running at a small stream to keep it from freezing outside. (by the way, those waterlines were in a new neighborhood less than 10 years old )
If you would like any free advice, feel free to call or text me on my work number
