A Revolutionary Concept For Designers

It can be lonely trying to make your mark as a handknit designer: knitting and drafting patterns into the wee hours, trying to answer the call of the yarn, hit a trend, fill a niche, heed the voices in your head and please that inscrutable editor or fickle Raveler. Sure, there are specific workshops taught by popular designers, mostly dealing with math or construction. Also, there are forums on Ravelry and groups on Facebook that can answer some questions but often these seem filled with publicity seekers or by lurkers who are looking to flame someone. But where can a knit designer find support and the opportunity to grow and share insight with budding and seasoned designers?

This group offers guided inspiration to hone an individual voice and signature design style. There will be monthly themes to explore and creativity exercises that draw on various disciplines and make use of improvisation, clustering etc. We will also share stumbling blocks in the design process, difficult decisions and breakthrough moments. Much as in a writers’ workshop, each member will have a scheduled opportunity to share and receive constructive critique. We will also hone our critical skills to understand what we feel works and why. Members will sign confidentiality agreements and pledge to be respectful, but to offer true opinions as this will not be mere show and tell. Members will have the opportunity to have their projects published and will receive a yarn discount.

There have been some recent nice blog reviews of my book. Like this one I just posted today. It bolstered my injured ego a bit, as silly as it may seem. You see, I had checked into Amazon to see if there were any more reviews there and my spirits lurched upon the 7th review. That reviewer's response to my work? "Meh"
I'm certainly used to negative responses (1st book had 65 reviews) but "meh" stings nevertheless.

So many projects from the book starting to be posted in ravelry. There is even a Shetland Shawl Dress and a gorgeous Thistle Blouse!

Ravelry is a community site, an organizational tool, and a yarn & pattern database for knitters and crocheters.

Errata forLoop-d-Loop Lace including a few revised charts are now posted on the Abrams/STC Craft website. They've done a great job of keeping on top of queries and posting the corrections.

Abrams Books publishes visually stunning illustrated books on the subjects of art, photography, interior and garden design, architecture, entertainment, fashion, and general interest.
