JA Concrete Construction said it best. So I am going to put this here.

Spring means quotes! Last week we fielded a few phone calls that started with the same concern "I just got a quote from our general and your concrete price was really high..."
This is a hard one to address, as we have NO idea what you were quoted...we know what we charge them, but we have no idea what they are 1) including and 2) what they are charging, as they are likely adding an up-charge. The best we can do is give you a pro/cons list from our perspective.

Going through a general
PROS
*LESS Headache for you (one stop shop).
*Priority on our job list as they have "reserved" spots.
*The contractor and concrete guy are on the same page.
*They put in the time to get quotes and re-quotes when the scope changes. They often think of scenarios homeowners don't.
CONS
*The price is likely to be higher than we would quote.
*It's harder to change the scope of work (you decide you want to add more) once we are there.

*We will do whatever we can to make it happen.
CONS
*You are responsible for coordinating all contractors and serve as the middle man when questions arise.
*You may be on a short waiting list.
*Payment is due upon receipt.
