PSA: Insulate your backflow devices during this weather. It doesn’t have to be fancy - wrap towels around it and put a trash can over it…. If the housing cracks it will have to be replaced. And if you have CPW, you will likely be required to replace it with a more costly device.

With this extremely cold weather quickly approaching, don't forget to protect your backflow device. If your device is above ground and unprotected, it will surely freeze. If you don't already have an insulated bag or rock, consider some type of make-shift insulation. Any attempt could possibly save you from the cost of replacement. Some ideas are:
- wrap the legs with pipe insulation
- wrap the device in a blanket, heavy towel, pile of hay or straw,
etc
- cover wrapped device with a trash can, recycle bin, cardboard
box (if not raining) etc
