Lots of people struggle to identify poison ivy - with good reason!! The leaves can be different sizes.All different shades of green,🌱 sometimes smooth edges sometimes 🌿 lobed edges, but the skeleton 💀 of the poison ivy leaves is always the same!

I had some awesome customers last evening: they cared enough about their fellow neighbors to cordon off the area of ground around the tree that the poison ivy ground vines had spread to.

Every fall & winter the birds carpet bomb our yards with poison ivy seeds in their droppings. The following spring, usually in late May, those seeds begin to germinate.

I encountered newly germinated poison ivy for the first time this year - last weekend in a yard in Iowa City.

How to identify:

Poison ivy's seed leaves are oval shaped as highlighted by the purple arrows.

Virginia Creeper's seed leaves are unmistakably Heart ❤️ Shaped.

These poison ivy seedlings are easy to smash, or kick out of the ground with a garden tool or toe of your boot. Please contact us if you see dozens or hundreds of them on your turf.
