Something worth knowing if you're buying an EV or already have one parked in your garage charging slowly:

Most electricians in the Flathead Valley will quote you a panel upgrade before they'll install a Level 2 charger. Sometimes that's the right call. Often it's not.

A device called Stepwise Tap installs between your panel and charger and manages the load automatically — so your panel never gets overloaded, you don't need a new panel, and a full Level 2 charger install typically runs $800–$1,800 instead of $4,000–$6,000.

It's UL-listed, code-compliant under NEC Article 750, and we've been installing them across the Flathead Valley. If you've gotten a quote that started with "you need a new panel," it's worth a second opinion.

Quick electrical tip for Kalispell homeowners heading into summer:

Test your GFCI outlets now — before you're running AC, outdoor equipment, and hot tub loads all at once.

Here's how: press the "Test" button on any outlet in your kitchen, bathrooms, garage, or outdoors. The outlet should go dead. Then press "Reset" — power should return. If it doesn't trip, doesn't reset, or the outlet has no Test/Reset buttons at all, it needs attention before the heavy-load season hits.

GFCI protection is required by code in all those areas for a reason — it's what prevents a shock or electrocution near water. An outlet that won't trip isn't protecting anyone.
