THE STORY OF “DOTS ON ROCKS”
I’m Linda Chinn and welcome to my “Dots on Rocks” page. If you visit in the future, it will probably look more business-like and actually appear professional. Right now, I’m in the very preliminary stages of creating this page. A computer design specialist, I am not!
“Dots on Rocks” started a few years ago after moving from the Bitterroot to the Flathead Valley. I found myself retired and looking at an empty calendar. Then one cold, very wet day, I went outside and was in awe at all the colorful Montana river rocks that surrounded our yard. I suddenly had the urge to do something with those unique stones.
Decades earlier, I had taken a tole painting class, and while I didn’t particularly like painting from a pre-drawn outline, I loved the freestyle “dotting” technique that gave substance to the finished product. I bought some acrylic paints and a few dotting tools, and then sat down to paint dots on rocks. I soon became captivated with the structured designs that emerged. I don’t use a pattern -- that first “dot” steers the creation of a piece of art – most of which are inspired from Mandala, aboriginal, and abstract designs.
