CITY OF KANKAKEE URGES CAUTION AS STORM REPAIR SCAMS TARGET TORNADO-AFFECTED AREAS
March 11, 2026 – Kankakee, IL – The City of Kankakee and Mayor Chris Curtis are urging residents to be cautious when approached by unsolicited contractors offering repairs following the recent storms.
“Unfortunately, there are individuals who attempt to take advantage of residents during difficult times, especially homeowners dealing with storm-related damage,” said Mayor Chris Curtis. “We encourage anyone who feels uncertain or concerned to verify that any contractor or solicitor is properly authorized and licensed to operate within the City of Kankakee.”
Residents are reminded that solicitors must be authorized by the City of Kankakee before conducting business within city limits. If you are approached by someone offering services and are unsure about their authorization, please contact the appropriate offices to verify their credentials.

LA CIUDAD DE KANKAKEE INSTA A LA PRECAUCIÓN ANTE LAS ESTAFAS RELACIONADAS CON LAS REPARACIONES DE LOS DAÑOS CAUSADOS POR LA TORMENTA EN LAS ZONAS AFECTADAS POR EL TORNADO
11 de marzo de 2026 – Kankakee, Illinois – La ciudad de Kankakee y el alcalde Chris Curtis instan a los residentes a que sean cautelosos cuando se les acerquen contratistas no solicitados que ofrezcan reparaciones tras las recientes tormentas.
«Desgraciadamente, hay personas que intentan aprovecharse de los residentes en momentos difíciles, especialmente de los propietarios de viviendas que se enfrentan a daños relacionados con las tormentas», dijo el alcalde Chris Curtis. «Animamos a cualquiera que se sienta inseguro o preocupado a que verifique que cualquier contratista o agente comercial esté debidamente autorizado y tenga licencia para operar dentro de la ciudad de Kankakee».
Se recuerda a los residentes que los agentes comerciales deben estar autorizados por la ciudad de Kankakee antes de realizar actividades comerciales dentro de los límites de la ciudad. Si alguien se le acerca para ofrecerle servicios y no está seguro de su autorización, póngase en contacto con las oficinas correspondientes para verificar sus credenciales.
