Don’t fall for it! I’ve ripped out a LOT of French drains that were installed incorrectly, plugged, and didn’t solve the problems they were intended to fix. They’re certainly not the silver bullet that some landscapers make them out to be. Rain gardens for the win!

This little guy got stuck inside and was keeping me company while I was doing some early morning design work. Nothing to be worried about (unless you’re allergic, of course). Paper wasps are beneficial, and the adults are actually pollinators, feeding on nectar, tree sap, and honeydew from aphids. They catch spiders, caterpillars, and other insects to feed their larvae. As you can see, he has zero interest in stinging me because I’m not harassing him or his nest. Before I started recording, he was actually cleaning himself on my hand, which is a sign that he felt safe. Paper wasps get an undeserved bad rap, as do most things with stingers, fangs, or teeth. Unless you’re potential prey, those weapons are only turned against us as a last line of defense when they feel threatened. Almost every creature you encounter that could harm you would much rather go about its business and avoid confrontation whenever possible.

It’s not uncommon for there to be color variations within a species, but bluebells seem to play by their own rules.

Spring time is always a little bonkers in the landscape world, and there are rarely enough hours in the day to get everything done. Being that it’s our 4th season in business (🎉🍾🥳), I’ve been wanting to freshen up our logo, but just haven’t had the time. My kids generously offered to handle it for me. I think they nailed it. I might have to put them in charge of more. If you see my 11 year old running an excavator, don’t be surprised.

If you receive a design from Bur Oak Ventures, chances are good that this young lady had a hand in it. My daughter (Samara) is a talented artist, and loves to help me by coloring the design after I finish the layout and line work. She’s better at staying inside the lines anyway, so everybody wins.
