Mission Control: Operation Draft Seal

Sealing those cosmic leaks with simple weatherstripping can save you up to 15% on your monthly energy bill. Here is your step-by-step launch plan to secure the perimeter:
Detect the Leaks (The Fragrance Test): On a windy day, light an incense stick and slowly trace it around window frames and door edges. Wherever the smoke flickers or blows sideways, you’ve found an active air leak.
Prep the Docking Area: Clean the surface thoroughly with rubbing alcohol and a clean rag to remove old adhesive, dirt, and grease. Weatherstripping won't stick to a dusty surface, leading to premature peeling.
Choose Your Armor:
V-Strip (Tension Seal): Best for the sides of sliding windows and top/bottom of double-hung windows.
Foam Tape: Great for irregular gaps around door frames and top/bottom window sashes (easy to cut and compress).
Door Sweeps: Install along the bottom interior edge of exterior doors to block ground-level drafts completely.
Measure & Cut Precise Sections: Measure each side of the door or window frame twice before cutting. Cut the strip to exact size using utility shears or heavy-duty scissors.
Apply with Firm Pressure: Peel the backing paper gradually as you press the strip firmly against the frame. Hold it down for 5–10 seconds per section to guarantee a tight seal.
Verify the Airlock: Close the door or window. You should feel a slight, snug resistance, indicating a tight seal without forcing the latch.
