In heavy-civil construction, safety isn't just a checklist; it's a leadership standard. For today’s Safety Topic Tuesday, we’re highlighting the "Competent Person": a critical role in every excavation project.

Under OSHA standards, a Competent Person is someone capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings or working conditions which are unsanitary, hazardous, or dangerous to employees, AND who has authorization to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them.

At Parrish & Sons Construction, our leadership are Authorized OSHA Outreach Trainers. We don't just assign roles; we mentor our team to understand the 'why' behind the regulations. Whether it’s inspecting a trench before entry or monitoring soil stability throughout the day, the Competent Person is the front line of protection for our most valuable asset: our people.
