General information
FAQ's Q: It is my dream to build a container home! Where do I start? A: You need to secure property. It is very hard to move forward with formalities if customers have not secured land or are not actively looking to purchase property. It is also helpful for you to call your local codes office and ask about minimum square footage and let them know what you are wanting to do. Q: How long do they take to build? A: Timelines can differentiate depending on your city. For instance if you have not utilities already hooked up on the property or they have to be altered by the city that can delay the installation by weeks. The container fabrication is done at our facility at the same time as the ground work and rough in is happening. Ideally once the container(s) are installed finishing work is set in motion and can be complete within weeks depending on the complexity. Q: Am I allowed to put a shipping container home anywhere I want? A: Container homes are quickly becoming a hot topic in affordable living, thanks to the Tiny Home Movement. Even though this is the case it is important to understand that not all cities and communities are aware of their affordability and durability. If you aren’t sure if you can build one, we encourage you to reach out to local real estate agents, or your local municipality if you have any questions about where you can build a container home. Q: Can you build commercial structures from shipping containers? A: Yes! We can construct buildings of all types with shipping containers: Military Barracks and Dorms Bed and Breakfasts AirBnB’s Hunting cabins Food Vending Facilities Retail Stores Mobile boutiques Offices – Mobile or Stationary Q: What sizes do you offer? A: We use standard 20’ and 40’ shipping containers, they are 8’ wide. The standard 20’ and 40’ containers are 8 ½’ tall. These containers are also available as a ‘High Cube’ at 9 ½’ tall (1’ taller than the standard 40′ container). We are able to raise the ceilings for loft space, stack containers and build with spacing between containers to meet your square foot needs, but can get other sizes if needed. Q: What do you do for a foundation? A: This will depend on what part of the world you are building but for North America we recommend, concrete for a basement, pad foundation or piers. Q: How are they Insulated? A: We use closed cell spray foam insulation (R-13) in both the walls and the ceilings of our container homes. It not only provides the maximum insulation possible, it also reinforces by adding 30% strength to the walls and 50% strength to the roof. The only holes in the container are those we cut for doors and windows (and raised ceilings if applicable). Because of this, the containers heat and cool very quickly. Q: If I send you photos of what I want, can you send me how much it will cost? A: Unfortunately we cannot. There is so much more that goes into providing a bid on how much you dream container will cost. Please see some tips as to how you can determine the potential cost on your own. Please reach out to us once you have narrowed down crucial information and we can provide you a free estimate. Our containers range between $90 - $140 per square foot. Each home is specifically designed to meet your needs (no two are alike). In order to provide you with pricing we need to know you have or will be securing the property for the build. Knowing a rough idea of how many square feet you would need. Determining how many bedrooms, bathrooms and size of living space you want will help in determining square feet. Other factors in price include: • Permits – Cost will vary based on your area and types of permits required • Site prep – Foundation that is rocky, uneven or prone to flooding will increase cost • Delivery – Price varies by number of units to be delivered and distance traveled **We require 50% down, 25% when framing and rough in is complete and the remaining 25% upon completion. Depending on the circumstance the remaining 25% may be required before delivery or install. Q: Can I use multiple containers? Can they be stacked? A: Yes! Containers can be stacked or spaced to create a larger living space or multiple floors. Q: Do you offer financing? A: We do not offer in house financing. We recommend contacting your financial institution or local lender.
