Let’s talk about something every lawn owner hears but may not fully understand…

🛑 Pre-Emergent vs. Post-Emergent 🛑

Pre-Emergent
Think of this as your lawn’s preventative defense. Pre-emergent creates a barrier in the soil that stops w**d seeds (like crabgrass) from sprouting in the first place. It doesn’t kill existing w**ds—it prevents new ones from becoming a problem.

Post-Emergent
This is your lawn’s w**d fighter. Post-emergent products are used after w**ds have already emerged and are actively growing. These treatments target visible w**ds like dandelions, clover, chickw**d, and many others.

🌱 A healthy w**d control program uses BOTH:
✅ Pre-emergent to prevent w**ds
✅ Post-emergent to control the w**ds that sneak through

🌱 Why Is My Lawn Brown? Tuesday 🌱

This week, be on the lookout for Brown Patch, a common lawn fungus that loves warm temperatures, high humidity, and wet grass.

Look for brown patches in the lawn and check the grass blades for tan lesions with dark borders—one of the key signs of Brown Patch.

Early detection is critical! If you’re unsure what you’re seeing, send Turf Geeks a photo and we’ll help diagnose it.

🚨 BROWN PATCH MONDAY 🚨

This weather pattern is a recipe for a brown patch explosion! 💥🌱

We’ve had plenty of rain, and now we’re heading into highs in the upper 80s with high humidity and sticky dew points. Those conditions create the perfect environment for brown patch fungus to spread quickly across cool-season lawns.

What to watch for:
✅ Circular brown patches
✅ Smoky-looking rings in the morning
✅ Rapid thinning and discoloration

The tricky part? Once you see it, the fungus has often already been active for several days.

This is why fungicide timing matters. Preventative applications provide the best protection before disease pressure gets out of control.

Remember: Mother Nature is the real boss of lawn care. We work with her every day, but sometimes she throws us a curveball! 🌦️

The real boss of what we do is Mother Nature.

We’ve been getting some much-needed rain, and we’re thankful for every drop. But this week we’re also looking at temperatures in the high 80s, along with high humidity and dew points.

While the rain helps the lawn grow, those conditions can also create the perfect environment for Brown Patch fungus.

That’s why lawn care is such a balancing act. The same weather that helps your lawn can also create disease pressure. It’s also why fungicide timing matters so much—we’re always trying to stay one step ahead of Mother Nature.
