It is fence season - if there is such a thing. I've recently worked on a fence rebuild where the client needed some boards replaced and wanted a new look. My wife is the creative one and she has an eye for these sorts of things. These are 3 ideas I showed the client for the horizontal look which has become a little more common in the past couple of years, especially if you are looking for a contemporary look without the high price tag. What do you think about these designs?

How to Replace a Toilet Seat

Replacing a toilet seat is quick and easy. If you know how to replace a toilet seat, you can make a cosmetic improvement to your bathroom in just a few minutes. Seats get damaged or cracked, but most often the goal is to simply freshen up the look of the toilet. Replacing a toilet seat may be the easiest bathroom repair to make because you don’t even need to turn off the water.

Toilet seats come in two styles or sizes: round (16 inches from front to back) and oblong or elongated (18 inches from front to back). Measure the old seat before you go shopping to ensure that you get the correct size.

To replace the toilet seat, you'll need a screwdriver, an adjustable wrench, and, of course, the new seat.

Step 1: Use a screw driver to pry open the bolt caps which are on the back side of the seat, near the tank.

Step 2: Use the adjustable wrench to hold the nut located on the underside of the seat bolt.

Step 3: Turn the seat bolts with the screwdriver. After you remove the nuts, lift off the seat.

Step 4: Align the bolt holes of the new seat with the holes of the toilet base. Push the anchor bolts through the holes, and then screw on the nuts from the underside of the bolts until they’re hand-tight. Center the seat and then tighten the nuts.

Once the seat is centered, use the adjustable wrench to tighten the nuts. Don’t over tighten the nuts — just beyond snug is good enough.

At our 4th of July block celebration, many of the neighbors were discussing recent mouse problems. We had a few at our house, too. This video shares where the mice might be nesting and how they might be getting in the house. In addition to the locations shown in the video, consider some traps outside where you think they might be getting in. I had great success with some traps on the patio near the house. If you need help identifying the entry points, give me a call, after all, I worked as an exterminator for many years. I can find these little guys.
