We’re getting closer to freezing temperatures, and now is the time to catch plumbing problems before winter does. A quick inspection now can help prevent frozen pipes, burst lines, and expensive emergency repairs later.

Here’s what I recommend checking:

🚰 Exterior Hose Bibs
• Check every hose bib for leaks or damage
• Make sure the interior shutoff works properly
• Verify frost-free hose bibs are draining correctly

💧 Water Lines
• Inspect exposed plumbing in basements, crawlspaces, garages, and utility rooms
• Look for pipes running along exterior walls
• Check pipe insulation for damage or missing sections

🧺 Washing Machine
• Inspect supply hoses
• Check shutoff valves for leaks or corrosion

🔥 Water Heater
• Check connections for leaks or corrosion
• Look for signs of aging or deterioration

💦 Sump Pump
• Test the main pump
• Check the backup pump and make sure it’s ready for winter
