The Anita Mancini Heart of the Cowgirl Scholarship was established by her family, alongside the Katy Cowgirls, to honor a woman who devoted 22 years of her life to leading, mentoring, and loving her girls and cowhands. Open to members of the Katy Cowgirls and Katy High School FFA students, this scholarship carries forward Anita’s legacy of faith, grit, hard work, mentorship, and the true heart of a cowgirl for generations to come.

This is not a somber goodbye. It’s a gathering of hearts, stories, laughter, and love — the kind of gathering Anita would have cherished. She loved deeply: her horses, her dogs, her husband, her children, her grandchildren, and her people. She led with strength, mentored with wisdom, and stood as a steady pillar in her family and community.

We take comfort in the promise of Scripture:
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want… He restores my soul.” Psalm 23

We believe she is restored now — whole, free, and home. Reunited with Nanny, held in God’s arms, running free across wide open fields where there is no pain, only peace.
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” Matthew 5:4

There may be tears — because love runs deep — but there will also be smiles, stories, and laughter as we honor a woman whose faith was strong, whose love was fierce, and whose legacy will ride on through all of us.

In true Anita fashion, she wrote her own obituary because she didn't want her family to have to do it. We all got a chuckle and a few cries out of it so we wanted to share. We are also so grateful that our dear family friend Kristina Briner-Levien is the one taking care of her and us in this stage of saying goodbye. I'll never be able to repay you for the comfort you have brought us!

It starts with an email to the funeral home...

I have written my own obit. my brother thinks I am a "donkey" for doing this but I don't want my kids to have to. Please add this to my package as a finished obit... I know it is not normal but it is what I want. I have placed it below for you to put wherever you store these kings of things. I will wait for you to call and take payment. Thank you so very much for helping me. I feel accomplished!

At 9:52 this morning, our sweet momma went home to be with Jesus and is now reunited with her beloved Nanny. Our hearts are broken beyond words, but we find comfort knowing she is healed, whole, and wrapped in perfect peace.

Thank you so much for the prayers, love, and support you’ve shown our family. We have felt every bit of it, and it has meant more to us than we could ever express.

Please give us time to process and grieve.

We love you all and are deeply grateful.

October is here, and with it comes Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This time of year always feels heavy but important. It’s a reminder that breast cancer isn’t just a word or a ribbon—it’s a reality that so many people face every single day. It’s mothers, daughters, sisters, friends, and even the men in our lives too.

When I think about this month, I think about the strength it takes to fight, the courage it takes to keep going, and the love that surrounds those who are on this journey. I think about the survivors whose stories inspire us, the fighters who show us what bravery really looks like, and the loved ones we’ve lost—whose memory will never fade.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is about more than recognition—it’s about action. It’s about reminding each other to take care of ourselves, to schedule checkups, to support research, and most of all, to support the people who are going through this battle right now.

To anyone who has been touched by breast cancer in any way—you are seen, you are loved, and you are not alone. This October, let’s stand together in compassion, in hope, and in determination for a future where this disease no longer takes so much from us. 💗
