We are incredibly grateful this morning.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to Venus Construction and Robert McIllhenny for responding so quickly and coming out first thing to repair our gazebo. What could have been a long setback for our organization was handled with professionalism, care, and generosity.

Not only did they repair the entire gazebo and restore it beautifully, but they also went above and beyond — taking the time to touch up other areas that were in need while they were here. That kind of thoughtfulness does not go unnoticed.

Their willingness to step in and serve our community means more than we can adequately express. Because of partners like Venus Construction and Robert, we can continue focusing on preserving Katy’s history and providing the programs and experiences our community values.

My last Christmas dinner with my Venus Construction team. Left to right…

Chase- held him when he was just a day or two old. Been on the team since ‘17

Robert- my friend for almost 30 years. We’ve been each others boss, friendly competitors and mentors for each other. He is the new boss.

Daniel- as close as I will have to a son. Been with me since 2008. I couldn’t have done it without him.

Billie- sister, driver, procurement specialist and expert cleaner. Been with me since birth.

Gelacio- with me since 2007. The longest of all my guys. Solid work every day.

Oscar- great worker on board since 2016.

Anthony- A fine young man with me since 2016.

Laura- my work wife, accountant, office manager, software engineer and personal shopper. She is the oil for the machine. Propping me up since 2016.

They are all special to me. I can’t thank them all enough for helping make Venus what it is today.

READ THIS NOW if you have a GENERAC GENERATOR.

Or SHARE info with your friends that have Generators.

Friends that are lucky enough to have Standby Generators that are running now , make sure you do this. If you have an air cooled size18-26 it is good to open your lid and turn it off every 48 hours. Let it cool down when you can find a good time. While it is off you need to check your oil , these units only take just under 2 quarts to fill and they burn oil pretty fast when running long periods of time. If you are one of those people who does not have a routine maintenance contract I recommend you check your oil now. Open the lid , the front cover pulls up and out , it is super easy your sister could do it. The controller on the right , TURN OFF its the red button. You will see the dipstick and oil fill port both have orange handles. Let your unit cool , while you run an errand ( like buying some oil) Then check it , add slow and do not overfill.

If you have a liquid cooled unit size 27-80KW you can use this same oil. I would google instructions using your unit part number.

5W-30 synthetic oil
Any auto parts has it.

Here is some excellent advice from our good friends at Obsta Plumbing, Inc.

The only time you should ever try to drain your house down is if you’re well or MUD district goes down and you do not have water at all. As long as you have water service to your house, leave the faucets dripping on the hot water side in multiple locations. Below are some other great steps to follow. 

🚨❄️ Winter Alert: Freeze Tips from Obsta Plumbing! ❄️🚨

Hey Houston residents! As freezing temps approach, Obsta Plumbing wants you to be ready. Here are some quick tips to keep your plumbing intact:

1️⃣ Protect Your Backflow Preventer: Drain the pressure off of it. Wrap it in insulation or towels, then cover with a trash bag to prevent freezing rain.

2️⃣ Drip or Drain? Drip warm water in pipes to prevent freezing. No need to drain unless you're up North or vacating.

3️⃣ Indoor Pipe Care: Open cabinet doors under sinks to let warm air flow. But be cautious with kids and pets around open cabinets.

4️⃣ Vacant Homes: Keep inside temperature at least 65°F. Open cabinets under sinks and along exterior walls for airflow.

5️⃣ Sprinkler System: Turn it off and open the valves to allow for water expansion when it freezes.

6️⃣ If Pipes Freeze: Patience is key. Thaw naturally, use a hair dryer for quicker results. Have bottled water on hand.

7️⃣ Emergency Preparedness: Know how to turn off water to your home, at the meter, and at fixtures. Check and maintain water shut-off valves. Get a Water Key for the meter.

If you do end up with a broken pipe, call us at Venus Construction. We will schedule a repair as soon as possible. As much as we love you, we hope we don’t see you due to the freeze!
