Securing land is one of the steepest barriers for new, beginning, and historically underserved farmers who are looking to establish a farm in the state.

Join us on Tuesday and learn about pathways for bridging the gap between available acreage and land-seeking producers. We'll be joined by folks from Land For Good and Connecticut FarmLink / Working Lands Alliance, and we'll be sharing collaborative strategies, networking resources, and technical assistance models designed to facilitate these vital connections. Attendees will walk away with actionable lease models and real-world examples of how local land trusts can successfully partner with farmers to activate trust-owned property.

We help farmers without a successor…find the right fit for the future of their farm.

Tim and Janet Taylor of Crossroad Farm, Post Mills & Norwich in Fairlee, VT, knew they wanted to eventually transfer their farm—but they also knew the process would take time. Land For Good helped them evaluate the farm assets, connect with other advisors, and facilitate conversations with their key employees to identify a potential successor.

Phil Mason had worked at the farm for more than 10 years, gradually taking on more responsibility. With guidance from Land For Good, Tim, Janet, and Phil developed a plan for a gradual transition that gave everyone time to adjust, build trust, and prepare for new roles. After 12 years of planning, Phil became the owner of Crossroad Farm.

Farm succession isn't just about finding someone to take over. It's about finding the right fit—and creating a transition that works for the farm, the incoming farmer, and the farmer who's ready to step back.

Join us for the first Zoom session, "Accessing Resources" on October 8th from 5-7pm.

It is never too soon to consider your options of how to access land and capital resources. On Thursday, join Amelia Tutmalria Evans-Brown, Land For Good’s Maine Field Agent and Bo Dennis, MOFGA’s beginning farmer specialist, to brainstorm about your future farm, the land base you’ll need, and the variety of ways to achieve your farm dream. This session will include time for you to hear from others, reflect on your goals, and learn about the resources available to support you in farming in Maine.

Northeast Farmers Fund - Grant opportunity for farmers in the Northeast. Applications Open October 1–14.

Wolfe's Neck Center’s Northeast Farmers Fund, provides funding, technical assistance and soil analysis to help Northeast farmers adopt or expand regenerative practices while strengthening market opportunities.

Applications for the Northeast Farmers Fund will open Oct. 1-14!

The Northeast Farmers Fund provides financial and technical support to help farms across the Northeast access markets for their regenerative products.

Participating farms will also receive assistance from Technical Assistance Providers, who can offer hands-on support throughout their projects, and the opportunity to conduct soil sampling and analysis to help track changes in soil health over time.

Funding guidelines are now live at wolfesneck.org/neff. Farmers interested in applying should review the guidelines and complete the interest form on the website ahead of Oct. 1.

Subsequent enrollment periods will be announced and shared. Subsequent offerings may vary depending on funding and program capacity.

As usual, the National Farm Viability Conference was inspiring and energizing. We're leaving with new ideas to explore and connections to expand. There were so many sessions to choose from. Thanks to all the organizers and presenters. We're looking forward to continuing supporting thriving farms with all this new information.

A forum for Farmlinking organizations to discuss and learn from one another about emerging topics, challenges, opportunities, solutions and opportunities for collaboration

Practical Considerations for Ground Leases, 9/24, 8am
A panel reviewing known ground lease transactions, reporting their successes / challenges, and outlining the lessons learned (legal, financial, social, etc). This panel seeks to further develop ground leases as a viable land access tool by offering reflection and constructive criticism.

Assessing What Matters - How Do We Know Our Programs Are Working?, 9/24, 8am
Through small-group discussions, peer exchange, and real-world scenarios, participants will explore what is being measured, what may be missing, and how factors such as relationships, engagement, timing, and adaptability influence producer outcomes.
