🚨 BREAKING: KENNEWICK WARNS OF “FOREVER CHEMICALS” IN DRINKING WATER
The City of Kennewick is notifying water customers after testing found elevated levels of two types of PFAS at its Ranney Collector 5 water source.
The chemicals exceeded Washington state’s revised action levels, with PFOS averaging 10.7 parts per trillion and PFHxS averaging 13.4 parts per trillion.
⚠️ WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: The city says no action is required from most customers at this time. However, state health officials recommend that people who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or preparing infant formula with tap water, consider using an alternative water source.
The city is designing a treatment system to remove PFAS, backed in part by a $15 million state funding award.
PFAS, often called “forever chemicals,” are man-made substances found in products such as nonstick cookware, waterproof clothing and food packaging.
More details to come.
