For our next Career in Construction feature, we're excited to introduce Matthew Cordova, our Innovation + BIM Manager.

Matt Cordova began his career in the trades as a material handler with SMART Local 66 before entering the sheet metal apprenticeship program. Since then, his career has taken him from the trades into detailing, BIM, and construction technology, where he has helped lead Hermanson’s transition from traditional detailing to connected, model-based workflows across VDC, fabrication, and the field.

Along the way, he’s been named a 2023 Autodesk Construction Champion, presented at Autodesk University and SMACNA, and most recently delivered a keynote at Stratus Innovate 2026.

His career is a great example of just how many directions a career in construction can take, from learning the trade firsthand to helping shape how technology connects the people designing, fabricating, coordinating, and installing our work

There’s a lot to see at the Oregon Zoo, including some of our team’s work! 🦁

Hermanson recently wrapped up mechanical and plumbing work supporting improvements to the Polar Plaza and Cascade Crest. The mass timber construction leaves much of our Sheet Metal team’s installation exposed, making craftsmanship, coordination, and attention to detail especially important.

Mystery, Mardi Gras, and PM Palooza! 🎭

This year, our team took over the HPD Shop for a Mardi Gras-themed PM Palooza, complete with a murder mystery to solve! Our Project Managers came together for an afternoon of fun, teamwork, and a well-deserved celebration of everything they’ve accomplished over the past year.

A special thank you to Johnson Barrow Inc. for sponsoring the event and helping make the day possible!

Sometimes good coordination starts with catching the problem before it becomes one.

Early in Hermanson’s work at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center, our team identified a conflict between the existing oxygen main and the new building foundation.

Working alongside the GC and Campus Facilities, the team developed a plan for an early shutdown and temporary oxygen supply with three levels of redundancy. The plan was executed without interruption to campus operations or impacts to the project schedule.

Beyond solving the immediate challenge, the process helped establish a strong working relationship between the construction and facilities teams that carried through the multi-year project.

The Hermanson team spent the day at the 2026 Hurley Engineering PNW Building and Plant Expo connecting with manufacturers, facility teams, and others across the industry. We also enjoyed meeting Perry Technical Institute students who stopped by to learn more about careers at Hermanson.

Thanks to Hurley Engineering Company of Tacoma and Custom Mechanical Services for bringing everyone together!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the Women of Hermanson came together for a Pink Ribbon Walk to honor those impacted by breast cancer, raise awareness, and support cancer research.‌

In addition to the walk, participants supported a fundraiser benefiting the Susan G. Komen Foundation and its mission to advance breast cancer research and support those affected by the disease.‌

Thank you to everyone who participated and to our partners at Velocity BTS, ATS Automation, Inc, ACI Mechanical & HVAC Sales, and Performance Contracting, Inc. (PCI) for joining us in support of this important cause.

Fall is here! As students settle back into classes, we're throwing it back to our work at the University of Washington Population Health Building, better known on campus as "Pop Health."

Hermanson delivered this progressive Design-Build project that brought together the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME), the Department of Global Health, and portions of the School of Public Health under one roof. The project was recognized for its forward-thinking approach to planning, design, and long-term facility maintenance.

Project highlights included:

• Installation of more than 900 chilled beams
• Installation of approximately 2,000 linear feet of in-slab radiant heating piping
• Incorporation of Safe Access, Maintenance, and Prevention Through Design principles for high-risk activities
• Design of dedicated pick points for equipment removal

General Contractor: Lease Crutcher Lewis

Architect: The Miller Hull Partnership, LLP
