October is when irrigation gets closed out for the year. Zones run and checked, lines blown clear with compressed air, backflow drained, controller set for winter. Handle it before the first hard freeze and the system starts up clean in April instead of showing you every place the water sat.

The drop does not happen all at once, so the clean-up cannot either. Crews work the same route every week from the first leaves down to the last, pulling them off turf, beds, and walks before they mat down. By the time the trees are bare the property has been through that route again and again, which is why it never looks like it is catching up.

Basin and pond edges quietly decide how the winter goes on a property. Plantings cut back, the outfall kept clear, and leaf litter pulled before it settles into the water. The mulch that goes back around these beds is made on our own yard from tree and plant debris, so the material stays in the loop instead of going into a dumpster.

On this community those sit on a set rotation, so when it comes up at the meeting the answer is that it is handled and here is when it was last done. 🍂 Through October the leaf route layers on top of the regular visit rather than replacing it.

This walk stays usable all the way through leaf season because it gets cleared on every visit, not after the leaves have already matted down and stained the concrete. Clear pavement, a defined bed edge, and plantings that still read as intentional in October. Weekly attention is the whole trick, and it costs a fraction of what the concrete repairs cost when it gets skipped.

Amenity spaces get quieter in October. They do not get less visible. Residents still cross the courtyard on the way in, and they still form an opinion about the property from what they see there. The pergola area, the planters, and the beds around them stay on the same weekly rotation they were on in July, which is why this one still reads as finished at the end of the season.
