art de toiture
(roofing art)
When replacing broken tiles it is impossible to match the original color. Even if you kept some original tiles under the house, the tiles on the roof will be faded by UV and discolored by dust in comparison.
Completely broken tiles must be replaced because the underlayment is exposed that degrades quickly in tropical sun. Color matched paint conceals replaced tiles, but they are discernable. Tile replacements create a checkerboard effect. The whole roof must be painted for uniformity.
If a tile is cracked, not completely broken, it's best to glue it together with a tile adhesive. Cracked tiles aren't a threat to underlayment as long as they block light. Cracks aren't visible to the eye, from a distance. Broken corners, glued back in place, are less noticeable than fully painted tile.
