March means Alabama is transitioning from winter to spring! While warmer days are on the way, cooler temperatures can still affect what and when you plant, depending on where you live in the state.

Now is a great time to start preparing your lawn and garden for the growing season ahead. Take a little time this month to plan, prep your soil, and get everything ready so your plants can thrive as spring arrives. In Alabama, March is the time to do the following:

•Fertilize certain shurbs, roses, and grasses
•Plant blackberries
•Check and repair your lawn mower and equipment
