⚠️🌳 Hypoxylon Canker in Oak Trees — What Property Owners Need to Know 🌳⚠️
We've noticed over the years it's only getting worse throughout Kingsland, Llano, Marble Falls, Burnet, Horseshoebay surrounding areas.
Hypoxylon canker spreads through microscopic fungal spores that can travel through the air, especially during windy or dry conditions.
Hypoxylon canker is a serious fungal disease that attacks stressed hardwood trees, especially oaks throughout Central Texas. Drought stress, root damage, soil compaction, and construction injury often weaken trees and allow the fungus to take over.
Common warning signs include:
🔸 Bark peeling or falling off
🔸 Silver, gray, or black powdery fungal spores on the trunk
🔸 Sudden branch dieback
🔸 Thinning canopy and rapid decline
🔸 Dead or brittle limbs becoming hazardous
Unfortunately, once hypoxylon canker becomes established, there is no chemical cure. In many cases, infected trees become structurally weak and dangerous, especially during storms or high winds.
🌳 Early action can help reduce risk:
✅ Have us Remove dead or infected branches when caught early
✅ Reduce canopy stress with proper pruning
✅ Remove severely infected hazard trees before failure occurs
✅ Improve overall tree health with proper care and watering
Dead limbs and weakened trunks can fail unexpectedly over homes, driveways, vehicles, and power lines. If you notice bark falling off your oak tree or large sections dying back, it may be time for a professional inspection.
