We are so happy for Bridge Street Theatre in the Village of Catskill, securing the second largest 2025 DRI grant award!
AAP is proud to have been part of the effort in the fall of 2025, collaborating with the BST leadership and LSC (local selection committee) on the application submission package.
The effort paid off to the tune of $1.588 million, which over the coming years will help the theatre achieve a state of the art performance facility the village and surrounding community deserves.
Congratulations to Bridge Street Theatre and all 10 DRI grant recipients!

Update on the May 17 Sidney, NY Unalam factory tour: curved glue laminated beams are now installed!
Eleven beams up to over 42 feet long and 21 inches deep each are forming three soaring volumes. The largest four beams have compound radii over their length.
The resulting spaces will be light filled with six distributed exterior doors to a south covered patio and curving, north facing wide deck.
Towards a late 2026 completion, a geothermal GSHP system with radiant floor heat will ensure comfort for decades to come.

Project manager for the contractor and I took a drive out to the Unalam factory in Sidney on Friday. It was very satisfying to see the compound and simple curved beams well into production, once completed they will be shipped in as little as 4 weeks. Our hosts Ian and Jim spent almost two hours showing us through the plant, which has been family owned by Ian Van Cott’s ancestors going SEVEN generations back to the 1890s!
Many of the large, impressive machines for planing, gluing, routing and knifing, etc. date back 60 to 70 years; the CNC that creates plywood templates is perhaps one of the latest machine additions to the factory floor.
One of the truly fascinating aspects was the army of tall, steel vices that along with human tuning are winched into place and tightened using a system of subfloor tracks, kind of like the cable cars of San Francisco. The dozens of rows of these slots allows for an infinite range of glulam sizes, shapes, and radii.
The company even makes its own steel connectors in a separate adjacent building. Some of them are huge and quite impressive, and many are for a single large project they have for an aircraft hanger, waiting for the right delivery date later this year.
Thought you would all enjoy a glimpse into this fascinating process, an engine of the original ‘mass timber’ construction industry dating back over 130 years!

Tonight we attended a packed house for the Catskill DRI overview in the Village of Catskill, where a number of deserving projects were viewed and voted on by members of the public.
Ashokan Architecture and planning conducted a charrette and prepared a schematic concept board for our client, the Bridge Street Theatre on West Main Street. The response was very positive, and we feel good about our chances to receive funding from the $10 million grant program, now in its eighth year.
It was a great response in a community on the upswing!

AAP planted project signs in Woodstock, Napanoch and Dryden this weekend, exciting new projects under construction and in planning, with more to come in Catskill, Cortland, and Kingston.
