Andy had another run-in with a black bear! đŸ»

This time, he was out in Sevierville, TN performing leak detection on a gunite pool and spa combo when his unexpected visitor showed up. Luckily, it seems this black bear just wanted to offer a little advice

Exterior walls are more susceptible to temperature fluctuations, increasing the risk of pipe failure. This case demonstrates how a concealed plumbing leak within an exterior wall can lead to structural and flooring damage. The homeowner contacted us after observing discoloration in their hardwood floor, initially unsure whether the cause was a plumbing leak or rainwater intrusion.

If you’re seeing unexplained stains, warping, or discoloration in your floors or walls, you may have a hidden leak. Call American Leak Detection of East Tennessee to find the source accurately using our electronic equipment and proven methods.

KUB is advising customers to inspect their lines for leaks or remotely check for increased usage in the KUB mobile app or at kub.org.

If you are customer of KUB, they can assist you in locating the shut-off valve if you suspect an underground water leak. KUB has listed the following number 865-524-2911 for KUB customers.

We are sharing KUB’s recent post following a main water line leak in the Fort Sanders area of Knoxville. Of course, we at American Leak Detection are ready to assist customers throughout East Tennessee with the detection of difficult or hidden leaks.

WINTER WEATHER
When cooler weather sets in, it is important to take a few preventative measures to protect your home. It doesn’t take much to get ready for Old Man Winter, a single weekend is all you need to properly winterize your home.
HELPFUL TIPS TO PREVENT WATER LINES FROM FREEZING
*Don’t wait! Imagine the panic you would feel if water started pouring through the house from a broken pipe. Locate the main shut-off valve, mark it, and make sure everyone in the household knows where it is.
*Seal any air drafts around fixtures.
*Insulate pipes in unheated areas.
*When freezing weather is in the forecast, turn off the water to outside spigots and drain all water from the line.
*Drain in-ground lawn irrigation systems. (Check manufacturer instructions for best method.)
*Report broken or missing meter lids to South Blount County Utility District to help prevent frozen meters.
*Set the thermostat to no less than 55° F or simply shut off the main valve to protect pipes during extended absences from home in the winter.

Water and electricity don’t mix. This video was originally posted in February 2015, but it’s worth reposting due to the unusual manner in which this leak presented itself. The building owner contacted us to detect a mysterious leak that posed a serious electrical safety hazard. Andy was onsite during the 2015 leak detection, and the leak was located and marked approximately 50 feet from the electrical panel where water was visibly exiting.
