Its always baffling to me why some companies will put a brand new roof on a house and go right back with the inefficient turbines...ventilation is the life of your roof system, you need 1 sq ft of ventilation per 300 sq ft if attic space and turbines just dont make the cut.
Ridge vent runs along the peak of the roof, which allows the heat to naturally vent (heat rises to the highest point), your soffit and gable end vents allow passive airflow as well.
Turbines tend to leak, especially if they aren't spinning. They can malfunction, make noises, and even allow critters access to your attic space.
For ridge vent, we cut about a half inch along each side of the ridge of the roof, lay out an 18 inch wide heavy duty ridge vent and top it with a color matching ridge cap. Ive never had an issue with a ridge vent leaking. It will help with cooling cost in the summer and prolong the life of your roof system.
Just a little tid bit of information for all the homeowners out there, it doesn't cost any difference in price to go ridge vent vs turbines. We at all pro roofing will not put turbines on roofs and I have in fact turned down jobs that insist on them (idk why they would).
