Reminder to cover any tender plants!

Heads up from your friends at Stanley's: the next three nights we are predicted to have temperatures below or near freezing in the Knoxville area. The forecast for tonight (Friday) is around 33 degrees F., tomorrow night (Saturday) is predicted to reach 32 degrees, and Sunday night is supposed to be around 35 degrees. Of course, in the higher elevations, you may experience even colder temperatures. If you have planted any tender plants outside already this spring, you will need to cover them for the next three nights with a cloth (such as a sheet), but do not put plastic over them.

We are open this weekend to serve you:

Saturday 9 to 5
Sunday 12 to 5

This is how spring goes in East Tennessee with our back and forth temperature fluctuations. But we know that spring is on its way, and we are here to help you keep Knoxville (and the surrounding area) green and growing!

Could your vegetable garden use some compost?

Four community partners are hosting piles of manure compost for home gardeners to use. The manure is aged and great for helping your garden grow.

Starting Thursday, April 23, vegetable gardeners are welcome to come and self-load what they need from the locations listed below. Limit one-half truckload per household. Please bring your own shovel and load during weekday daylight hours and avoid weekends, if possible. Donations to host non-profits are appreciated but not required.

South Knoxville: 1015 England Dr.
North Knoxville: Beardsley Farm, 1741 Reynolds St.
East Knoxville: Knoxville Botanical Garden & Arboretum, 2649 Boyd’s Bridge Pike

Thought this was just a nice calm image of agroforestry.

This is one of those rare years when the full Moon lands right smack on the spring equinox—on March 20, 2019 in North America. This only happens three times a century, on average. And it’s the third and final “supermoon.” Enjoy the extra-bright equinox full moon Wednesday night!

Here is another potential option to consider if you are looking to incorporate a fence for privacy. It is often easier to envision during the winter when things are sparse. Keep in mind you will want an evergreen option for year round privacy.
